About Thalia

I’m Thalia Halloran. I’m a Chicago-based writer working in multiple modes/genres. I graduated from Duke University in 2022 with a BA in English and minors in Creative Writing and History.

I have been writing from the moment I could pick up a crayon—though those earliest works resemble ancient runes more than recognizable text. I was raised in a household of literature professors who instilled in me twin loves of storytelling and of the profound versatility of the English language. I’ve always written relentlessly, read voraciously, and listened enraptured by the rhythms of everyday speech and life.

As an undergraduate at Duke University, I was awarded two scholarships and seven awards for my creative writing, primarily my fiction. Through workshops and seminars, my voice matured and developed a distinctive character: wry, neurotic, subtle, indignant, introspective, evocative, and always, always compassionate.

Also at Duke, I co-founded Duke University Stand-up Troupe (DUST), Duke’s first stand-up comedy troupe, where I learned to write, workshop, and perform original stand-up comedy. Since moving to Chicago, I have continued to hone my comedy skills through open mics around town and through improv and writing classes at Second City. I have always been a writer more than a performer, but stepping out of my comfort zone and onto the stage has only strengthened my written work.
