Hello and welcome to the new version of my blog!
I’m Thalia Halloran. I’m a writer, a reader, and a student of English, Creative Writing, and History at Duke University. I have been writing for as long as I can remember. I usually write fiction, but I also dabble in creative nonfiction, poetry, playwriting, and even stand-up comedy!
2020 was a crazy year for me, as I’m sure it was for most people. I was all set to spend my summer volunteering in San Francisco and my autumn studying and interning in New York City, but the pandemic struck right as I was on spring break and I was told that no students could return to my college campus. I have been in my parents’ home in the months since, and my first semester of junior year was spent entirely virtually. Luckily I still found engaging online courses and kept up some writing, but I’m ready for a change.
In 2021, I am writing a novel as my thesis project for distinction in my major. I’m also pursuing a new range of interesting courses, running my bookstagram, volunteering with a local nonprofit, working with my university’s leadership program, and continuing to run the stand-up comedy troupe I co-founded. It’s going to be busy, and that’s why I wanted to update this space for myself to reflect on my activities and my personal and professional endeavors.
As a part of my plan to read more, write more, and enjoy myself more, I’m committing to using this blog. To that end, I’ll be posting regular updates in the Musings section every Friday and monthly book review roundups on the 1st day of each month. Other updates, including the occasional creative work, will appear more sporadically.
This post is Musing Number One, and my December Book Review Roundup will be up later today. Thanks for reading and joining me on this endeavor!
