Thalia Halloran is a student at Duke University, where she is pursuing a BA in English with minors in Creative Writing and History. She was awarded the 2020 Anne Flexner Memorial Fiction Award, and received runner up for the American Academy of Poets Prize at Duke University. She was also awarded the 2019 Margaret Rose Knight Sanford Scholarship for Creative Writing, the 2019 Reynolds Price Fiction Award, and the 2019 second place George Lucaci Award for Creative Nonfiction. In fall 2019, Thalia was chosen as a student fellow for StudioDuke, an arts mentorship program that pairs students with alumni mentors to refine artistic projects over the course of one academic year. Thalia is also the co-founder of Duke University Stand-up Troupe, the first stand-up comedy group at Duke. Thalia has been writing since she was three, when her older sister taught her to read by drawing letters on a chalkboard easel. Her earliest manuscripts are scrawled in unintelligible, almost runic handwriting, which most assuredly has improved over the years. Read her work here.
